FLV: Clear Superiority in Both Video and Audio Performance

With the recent surge in high-quality content streaming in 4K/HDR and Dolby Atmos audio, the Apple TV 4K has been playing an increasingly central role in my home theater. However, this introduces a bit of a dilemma: the Apple TV 4K only has a single HDMI output. Consequently, the signal must pass through an AV amplifier before reaching the projector or TV, meaning the setup requires two HDMI cables.

In an ideal world, using two LS3 laser cables would be the ultimate solution. However, in my specific setup, the distance between the Apple TV 4K and my AV preamplifier (the Trinnov Audio Altitude 16) is only about one meter, making the use of an LS3 feel a bit excessive.

After careful consideration, I opted for the FLV (1.5m), a copper HDMI cable that successfully achieves 8K 48Gbps compatibility. This flat-style cable utilizes conductors made of high-purity 5N OFC (oxygen-free copper) coated in pure silver. Furthermore, the connectors integrate "Pulshut MU"—a material designed to absorb noise well into the high-frequency spectrum. Defying the conventional industry wisdom that copper cables cannot reliably handle 8K signals beyond 3 meters, AIM successfully commercialized lengths up to 5 meters.

True to my expectations—or rather, far exceeding them—the FLV delivered extraordinary performance. It produces striking, deep contrast and vivid, lifelike colors, while offering exceptional clarity through the finest details. Equally impressive is its rich, robust sound with a substantial lower-midrange presence—a performance so compelling it made me want to buy another one strictly for audio use. Without hesitation, I can say the FLV is a rare HDMI cable that delivers a definitive upgrade in both picture and sound quality.
