This summer, AIM Electronics released two models of ethernet cables. One of them is the NA4, a relatively affordable cable. For detailed specifications, please refer to the company’s website, but one notable feature is its thoroughly implemented shielding structure. This method not only eliminates the effects of external noise but also reduces the noise generated by the cable's own conductors.
For this listening test, the Qobuz streaming service was used. When the cable between the NuPrime hub and the Esoteric network player N-01XDSE was replaced with the NA4, the improvement was immediately noticeable in the form of quieter background sound. The sharpness of the sound also improved, but more than that, the reproduction of low-level signals became clearer, allowing the subtle breathing and nuances of the music to be heard.
In vocal tracks, the nuances of the singer’s voice are well conveyed, while in classical pieces, the sound becomes more vibrant and the music comes alive. Even the delicate touches of string instruments can be distinctly heard.
Generally, when swapping cables, one feels the biggest change instantly, but the NA4 is unforced and lacks exaggeration, giving the impression that its performance potential gradually unfolds.
The cable's thickness is appropriate and it isn't stiff, making it easy to handle. The use of die-cast connectors for the terminals ensures a reliable connection, which is reassuring.
